Christmas celebrations around the world

In a week we'll be resting at home or hanging out with our friends because we'll be ON HOLIDAY!!
When we think about Christmas we usually bear in mind: presents, parties... and holidays! of course!
Now it's time to think and learn some facts related to Christmas in other countries and cultures.
In Spain we have "The Three Wise Men" , who give us some presents each 5th January night; and we eat "twelve grapes" each New Year's Eve in order to be lucky during the following year which is about to start.
Here you have some pictures:

What are their names? In which countries do these characters arrive each year to give some presents away to the children?
GOOD LUCK and HAVE A REALLY NICE TIME!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Are you a firework?

I have just watched this video ... and I have to say that it is GREAT!! Of course I've thought about you because we can also read the lyrics  (in English and Spanish), so you can learn a lot of vocabulary and also understand it properly.

  • 2º ESO : Class, THERE ARE a lot of things here. For example, there are SOME people. What other things are there? Do you like this song? And the most important question: Are you going to show me that all of you are FIREWORK and that I should trust on you? (yesssss, please!)
  • 1º BACHILLERATO: Are you going to motivate me, class? ;-)  Well, in class we are studying the present perfect... So can you translate the sentence: "alguna vez has sentido....?"              Also, I've got some questions for you such as: Do you like the song? How many verbal tenses can you distinguish here? Are you fireworks?
These are just ideas, but the most important thing is that you listen , watch and COMMENT!! Thanks!!

25th November: The International day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Hello, guys! Today we celebrate the international day for the elimination of violence against Women (and Men, of course).
Before reading this post I invite you to have a look at this video.

“Violence against women and girls takes many forms and is widespread throughout the globe. […] On this International Day, I urge governments and partners around the world to harness the energy, ideas and leadership of young people to help us to end this pandemic of violence.  Only then will we have a more just, peaceful and equitable world.”
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Message for the International Day for the
Elimination of VIolence against Women
25 November 2011

By resolution 54/134 of 17 December 1999, the United Nations General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and invited governments, international organizations and NGOs to organize activities designed to raise public awareness of the problem of that day. Women's activists have marked 25 November as a day against violence since 1981. This date came from the brutal assassination in 1960, of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic, on orders of Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961).

On 20 December 1993 the General Assembly, by resolution 48/104  adopted the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Now, it's time to think about it!

  • Do you think women and men have equal opportunities?
  • Does it really exist equality all around the world?
  • .... domestic violence... ????
Here you have a video about this topic.
After watching and listening it, tell me: which is your favourite statement? For me:
There is a difference between love and control: LOVE DOESN'T HURT!!
Use Education to earn a living! ;-)
